dealing with waste and nutrient loops

Insects are nature’s most powerful upcyclers

Insects are nature’s most powerful upcyclers. To change our resource depleting linear system of production, insects are the missing link. We need them to create a healthy, circular food system.

Insects like Black Soldier Flies will turn low-grade food waste into valuable high-end proteins, fats and organic fertiliser, quickly and efficiently. Fed with a mixture of farm or food production waste (fruit, vegetable, cereal or animal) from local sources - insects have a very low ecological footprint and are a sustainable alternative to regular protein sources. Though it’s important that their food sources are pesticide free.

Insects like Black Soldier Flies can turn almost any soft organic waste stream waste into valuable body mass very fast and with a very low impact on resources. A tonne of insect mass can be grown in less than a week, using a land area of just 20 square meters.

Conventional protein sources - meat and soy, use up vast amounts of land and water. Grazing for Livestock and soy, alfalfa and palm oil plantations are responsible for the far majority of deforestation - so they have a huge impact on loss of habitat and biodiversity. Sustainable Insect protein is the answer to many of these problems.
